Articles

  •  ‘A’ and ‘an’ are articles.
  •  ‘A’ and ‘an’ are used to talk about one person, thing or animal.
  •  ‘A’ is used before a noun which starts with a consonant sound.


  •  Consonants are letter ‘b’, ‘c’, ‘d’, ‘f’, ‘g’, ‘h’, ‘j’, ‘k’, ‘l’, ‘m’, ‘n’, ‘p’, ‘q’, ‘r’, ‘s’, ‘t’, ‘v’, ‘w’, ‘x’, ‘y’ and ‘z’

  •  ‘An’ is used before a noun which starts with a vowel sound.
  • Vowel are ‘a’, ‘e’, ‘i’, ‘o’ and ‘u’.

Gender

a) Gender tells us if a person is a male or a female.
b) The males are of the masculine gender.
c) The females are of the feminine gender.

Nouns

a) A noun is the name of a person, place, thing or an animal.

b) A proper nouns is the special name for a person, place, thing or
    an animal.

Prosonal Pronouns

  • We use personal pronouns when we talk about people or animals. 
  • When a personal pronouns is used as the subject, it is placed at the beginning a sentences.
  • We use singular pronouns for singular nouns.
  • We use plural pronouns for plural nouns.
      Notes
  1. I, you, he and she are pronouns.
  2. ‘I’ is used with ‘am’. 
  3. ‘You’, ’we’, and ‘they’ is used with ‘are’. 
  4. ‘He’, ‘she’ and ‘it’ are used with ‘is’.

     Examples: 

  1.  I am seven years old. 
  2. You are my friend. 
  3. She is a teacher. 
  4. It is a cat  
  5. We are playing football.





Singular and Plural Nouns

a) A singular nouns stands for one person or thing.
b) A plural nouns stands for more than one person or thing.
c) A plural noun is formed by adding ‘s’ to a singular noun.
